GULF1591 - Service Delivery Engineer – Midrange

We are looking for a dynamic motivated individual to join our Information Technology Team as Service Delivery Engineer – Midrange
Main Objectives:

To work with other UNIX, Wintel, Networking, Security, Data Centre operators and Database engineers in implementing, maintaining, configuring, and administering UNIX and LINUX Operating Systems (OS) and Backup solution. Build and maintain monitoring systems for various servers, system and services. Create and maintain all related documentation, schematics and reports.
Main Duties:
  1. Work under minimal direction, functions in multiple advanced specialty disciplines such as systems infrastructure, installations/integration, cross-discipline functions, system engineering on multiple operating systems, industry expertise, knowledge engineering or legacy evolution, leads and coordinates the design, development, implementation support and optimization of IT infrastructure systems that enable and support business and/or IT engineering  functions.
  2. Review and recommend parameters to applications to establish a correct OS environment configuration for optimal performance of the applications.
  3. Tuning the environment and Lead problem resolution.
  4. Perform implementations of OS patches, upgrades and conversions of OS.
  5. Define project scope, plan deliverables including cost projects and proposed implementation dates.
  6. Assist leadership in determining technical direction and IT strategy of the organization.
  7. Conduct researches, analyzes, recommends and implements new technologies, standards, processes, tools and techniques.
  8. Create systems infrastructure portions of information/technology plans based on an understanding of the customer’s organizational strategic direction, technical context and business needs.
  9. Coach and provide technical leadership to others on infrastructure solutions designs, platform sizing, and the application of new technologies and project management methodologies.
  10. Provide technical support for IT initiatives through participation in proposals and marketing studies.
  11. Review other infrastructure system designs to select appropriate technology, ensure efficient use of resources and ensure integration of multiple systems and technologies.
  12. Identify, develop, update and enforce standards and procedures. Perform Capacity management of all IT resources.
  13. Monitor and ensure resolution of performance issues.
  14. Interface with others on system infrastructure problems, technical concerns, and financial issues.
  15. Research, evaluate and stay current on emerging tools, techniques and technologies.
  16. Provide advice to applications programmers in the effective use of OS, backup and restore techniques; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs and other OS issues.
  17. Create and maintain all IT related documentation, schematics and reports.
  18. Identify and determine causes of security violations and recommend corrective actions to ensure data security, integrity, and availability.
  19. Work with a team and provide input for the engineering, design validation, and project planning of networking requirements
  20. Obtain and maintain required certifications for partnership with key vendors.
  21. Manage, coordinate and administer all Change Controls to the production IT environments and ensure they are tracked accordingly.
  22. Discuss, propose and review all workable technical solutions for implementing of all new projects and ensure they are complete and comprehensive and that they meet Gulf Air requirements.
  23. Asset management with all its components of data collection, administration and tracking of all IT assets.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • BSC in Computer Science or other equivalent IT studies.
  • Minimum 3 to 7 years experience on UNIX and LINUX environment.
  • Knowledge of Airline solutions or experience in any field in the Airline Industry will be beneficial.
  • Install, configure, tune, administer and troubleshoot (HP-UX 11i (v1, v2 and v3), IBM-AIX 5.3 and above, Sun Solaris 8 to 10) operating system.
  • Disk system management using HP LVM, IBM LVM, Sun SVM.
  • File system management using UFS, JFS2, VXFS, etc.
  • Virtualization VMware, Oracle VM
  • Ignite-UX installation utilities, recovery media.
  • Cluster installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting (HP-UX MC Service Guard, IBM-AIX HACMP and Sun Cluster 3.1 and above).
  • Network implementation and administration using NFS/DNS/NIS.
  • Backup and restoration using generic UNIX commands on HP-UX, IBM-AIX, LINUX and Sun Solaris.
  • Backup and restoration using Enterprise backup (IBM TSM)
  • Writing shell scripts for routine administration activates (UNIX scripting using c, sh, ksh, etc).
  • Install, Configure, tune, administer Storage Area Network (HP SAN EVA6000 and SUN SAN 6320, EMC CX4-480) and IBM Tape Library.
  • Candidate should posses designing and architecting skills to prepare and recommend system solutions for the organization.
  • Candidate should be capable to evaluate and monitor Server security procedures to ensure corporate-wide understanding and compliance.
